The Crossfit world was a bit foreign to me. Coming from a high school and collegiate track background, coupled with your traditional split body part exercises, Crossfit as new and I wasn’t sure about the change. However, I started the on ramp class and became instantly hooked. The reason for the hook was simple; I discovered it created many positive influences in my life. Physically and mentally, I feel stronger and have become more motivated. Coach Billy not only created, but fostered, a community that lends itself to develop genuine friendships and relationships. My Crossfit family encourages me to be strong, believe in myself, and push forward.
The Crossfit culture starts with the coach. I have been training with head coach Billy Darrer for a little over a year, and he has proven to be an exceptional coach and mentor. He is extremely knowledgeable and as equally passionate. Billy’s commitment to his work is evident each and every day; he encourages and motivates his clients to work to their highest potential. He also has a wealth of knowledge about nutrition, mobility, injury prevention and recovery. When I discovered I had a labral tear in my shoulder, an injury sustained from poor form prior to joining Crossfit, Billy personally modified my WODS and built up my strength. Now, I am able to exercise without pain. I attribute my recovery to his knowledge, thoroughness, and skillfulness.
I chose to relocate boxes because Billy is the heart and soul of our community. And, when I found out Billy would be opening a new box with Glenn McConnell, I knew this partnership would be a success. Neither I nor my new forged CrossFit family hesitated to move with Billy and Glenn to Crossfit Flow State. If you are looking to see change, physically, mentally and socially, this is the box for you. Now join. You won’t regret the results!
As an ex-athlete, I always worked out…cardio, weights, road cycling but as I learned over the past 2 years working with Billy Darrer–exercising was not the same as training. Intensity, load and having fun while doing it matters. Working with Billy has given me the motivation to continue to train for life, be the best version of myself and to enjoy the ups and downs. I started CrossFit with a severely arthritic knee almost 3 years ago, since then I had it replaced and am now just shy of getting back to my pre-surgery PRs in 1 year thanks to his thoughtful training and safe progressions. Billy’s knowledge and coaching abilities are phenomenal. I highly recommend him to bring out the athlete in anyone…no matter their age or physical ability.
I’ve been training with Billy Darrer for the past two years and have dropped into a number of CrossFit gyms during that time. Billy is the best coach out there. He is extremely focused on proper technique which is key if you want to avoid injury and does a great job scaling his programs to all skill levels. He also puts in a lot of time to mobility work and has a strong foundation in human anatomy which is extremely important. Unlike some CrossFit programs I’ve come across, Billy’s programming is very well thought out in advance and has provided me with significant gains in both overall strength and conditioning
